Team Cattle Penning
This fast paced, exciting event gives a team of three riders 90 seconds to separate three specifically numbered cattle from a herd of twenty-one.
After the necessary cattle have been separated they must be driven into a small pen located at the opposite end of the arena. And, to make things more difficult, no more than four cattle are allowed across the foul line at one time or the team is automatically disqualified.
Teamwork is of the essence; individuals must work together like a finely tuned machine to achieve the desired result - the fastest time with the most cattle penned.
NEW FOR THIS SEASON - RANCH SORTING
Ranch Sorting evolved from the common ranch work of separating cattle into pens for doctoring, branding or transport.
Ranch Sorting pits a team of two riders working against the clock with a herd of 10 cattle on one end of the arena.
The two riders have to move the numbered cattle one at a time from one pen to the other in numerical order, starting with a random number called by the judge. The fastest time wins. If a calf gets from one pen to the other out of order, then the team is disqualified.
The first portion of Pebblestone Sorting will be a "DRAW". Teams members are chosen at random and each team has two runs. Time and number of cattle sorted in both runs are combined for a final team score.
The second section is the "OPEN". Riders make up their own teams, and each team has two runs. Times and number of cattle sorted in both runs are combined for a final team score.
Pebblestone Penners also travel to compete in competitions such as the Eastern Ontario Team Penning Association
